BROADWATER LAKE CLOSURE

Broadwater update

Due to a combination of unusually high nighttime temperatures and nearby thunderstorms, Broadwater suffered a deoxygenation event last week.  There have been some fish losses, estimated at 50-60 perch, 40-50 roach and 20-30 carp. Luckily not all the lake was affected. The FMC and Broadwater bailiff team ran emergency pumps through Sunday night and late into Monday evening to stabilise the situation. They have worked since then to get more aeration running permanently in the lake and have extra portable aeration on site should it be needed.

We have closed the lake to angling for now so that the fish do not have the additional stress of fishing pressure and to stop extra nutrients from bait going into the water.  Unfortunately, we are only at the beginning of July.  We do not know yet what the rest of summer will bring in terms of weather.  The lake will remain closed until the conditions are such that we can safely reopen the water to angling.
