The lake is full of small carp and these were easy targets on the maggot alongside small roach. Dave and Michael Ewing targeted the bigger fish on pellet and ran out clear winners with 20lb 13 including two carp over 5lb for dad Dave.
The Hackman family filled second and third spots with small fish nets and Cameron and Malcolm fourth.

With the river in full flood and much of the lock cutting towpaths under water, we transferred to Marsh Farm Richardson Lake. After a frosty start the warm sunshine triggered algae floating up from the bottom. As on previous occasions that this has happened, the fishing was very hard and in fact only one of the thirteen competitors caught anything. The winner and only catcher was Andy Rogers with one bite producing a 2lb Tench.

7 pairs fished this closely fought competition which was run on a carp count basis with only the bigger fish being weighed. The early action was at the bottom of the rugby bank- peg 22 - where Cameron had a carp virtually first cast. however as time wore on the pegs opposite the islands started to pull way. Leo and rob Hackman on Peg 10 edged in front with three fish but Michael and David on peg 13 caught them up.
Then Leo and Rob would catch a coupe more, Michael and David pull one back in what proved a tense battle. At the end Leo and rob caught 8 carp - biggest 15lb9 - and Michael and David came second with 6 fish - biggest 14lb 9. After the early start the Rugby Bank went quiet with single fish being scored- the biggest weighing in at 15lb 3 for Callum and Richard.

It wasn’t the best match of the year for the 12 who braved the cold, but they where all rewarded with hot chocolate and a great xmas party afterwards, whether they caught or not. Hill Pond was not seen at its best for our young brigade with only 4 catching, and then not very much. Victory went to James Buckley with the massive weight of 4ozs, narrowly beating his next door neighbour Ben Barnet. James had 3 small fish to Ben’s 2 small fish… just a difference of 1oz! Other catchers included George Evans and Harry Franklin who both tied with half and ounce!
