Martyn's first trip to Broadwater
Although I've been a GAS member for many years, I only fish a few times a year nowadays.

I've taken my grandson, Martyn Butler, aged 13 years, to Marsh Farm a few times, and he's caught Tench up to about 1.5lbs. I decided to take him to Broadwater on 1st September 2010, and went to the Guildford Angling Centre to buy Martyn a guest ticket, but I was told that he could join as a Junior member for just £15.00, rather than pay £12 for a day's guest ticket. Needless to say he joined GAS as a Junior!
We arrived at Broadwater at around 16.45 only to find that my favourite swims along the Rugby Club bank were all occupied. We eventually found a swim on this bank just at the start of the wire fencing to the right of the path, and by the time we had set up the three rods it was around 17.30. We ledgered, with two rods straight out about 20/30 yards, and the third just a yard or two out from the bank to our right, under the overhanging bushes/trees.

We had the odd knock on all three rods, but no real runs until suddenly, at around 19.30, Martyn suddenly grabbed the close-in third rod and struck: I hadn't noticed, but he had seen the rod tip bend over and heard the bite
alarm going. He was obviously into a very good fish as the rod was really bending right over, and after a 7 to 10 minute fight, he eventually brought a 20lb mirror carp to the net. Just as I was carrying the fish to the unhooking mat a bailiff (sorry don't know his name) came along, and said "that's a good fish, must be a twenty". My scales were jumping around all
over the place so I'm not sure of the exact weight, but it was certainly above the 20lb mark.

Photographs (not very good) enclosed.

Not bad for a first trip to Broadwater for Martyn.

Mark Burrows fished the Oaks swim on Saturday evening 21/8/10 through to Sunday 22/8/10 and finished around 3pm.
To catch this common weighing 23lb's
In the fishing session he had another 20 carp to 17lb which was a mirror carp

Chris Bond caught this cracking Barbel at Eashing. It was a PB for Chris and weighed 10lb 7ozs (witnessed by C Batterson). I caught it on a size 10 hook with a small halibut pellet ledgered under some overhanging trees.

River fishing well.
I had a very enjoyable morning fishing River Wey at Broadford Bridge today.

Bagged approx. 6lbs of Roach, Dace and Perch, all on stick float with red / white maggot, size 20 hook  / 1.5lb line. Also saw a big crayfish, trying to get into the keepnet!

Harris Lake surprise. (20lb 120z)
Mark Thompson had a bit of shock whilst fishing for the big tench and crucians when he hooked into a zoo creature! There are a handful of carp in the lake that came through when they were originally filled direct from Johnsons but we have been removing them as & when they occasionally appear. This one has obviously evaded capture until now and has packed on the weight providing Mark with an interesting fight and a new Harris Lake record. Congratulations Mark

Ryan bags one of our monsters!

Junior Ryan landed a 4lbs Crucian from Richardson Lake this Sunday morning (28th March 2010) in spite of losing an hour in bed due to the clocks changing! Congratulations Ryan on joining the small but growing membership of T4CC - The 4lb Crucian Club.

If you don't fish for them you won't catch them
Paul Greenfield had this cracking 21lb 8 ozs common from Broadwater lake on Saturday the 6th March
which was a PB for Paul, nice carping Paul. If you can catch this time of year get ready for a new PB when the fishing gets easier.

Record perch landed from Hill Pond.
Ross Howe who has braved the dreadful weather whenever the ponds were unfrozen has been rewarded with a new PB and Pond record perch weighing in at exactly 3lbs.
There are two chunky perch in Hill Pond both around the same weight that always show up when we net it, so the other one might be the slightly larger one!
Congrats to Ross and we hope you land the other one too

PS
The other large Hill Pond Perch weighing in at 3lbs 2oz was caught two weeks earlier by Frankie Bevan

Big perch starting to show in Harris Lake

Having stocked Harris with a number of reasonable perch with the potential to grow on well it appears that they are now begining to show having packed on the weight. This is Dave Johnson with a 3lb specimen. The chub there are also putting in regular appearances around the same weight as the perch

29lb 10oz Johnson's carp

As reported by the lucky captor David Stephens.
I caught this last night (Friday 15 October 2009) from Johnson's. I've sent it to you in hope that it will be added to the website as not many seem to send in there catch reports/photos. I regularly visit the website (and others) and like to see how the fish are doing and what is caught. I feel that this is a free way of promoting society and may sway new anglers to join if they can see what they are fishing for.
I hope to send some more photos when I manage to fool another.
The catch was witnessed by another member by the name of Phil Brambley who assisted with they weighing and photos. I cant thank him enough
Many Thanks David Stephens

Big Frame puts in a rare appearance.

Exactly one year to the day since she last came out Big Frame was banked @ 35lbs 4oz by Mark Adams.
Weighed, photographed and returned within a few minutes of being caught as all our fish should be.
Mark who has had a stunning run in the last five weeks with 3 fish over 30lbs was last seen running off to buy a lottery ticket and I've asked him to buy me one with the same numbers! We expect to be fishing in the Caribbean all winter if his luck holds.

Ade owns up to new Club record Barbel!

I knew he'd been putting in the hours all over our stretch of the river Wey and his dedication and determination were rewarded with some excellent Barbel topped off by a new club record weighing in at an impressive 13lbs 1oz.
Whilst understandably unwilling to divulge the exact location of this capture he was game enough to disclose that it was caught somewhere below Upper Eashing but definitely before the Guildford Rowing Club stretch. I trust that will help all you keen Barbel hunters? If not then perhaps you too could put in the hours of walking the banks looking for the promising Barbel stretches, plumbing the depths for those fish holding holes and then sitting on the bank side night after night.
Trust me when I tell you that the level of satisfaction goes through the roof when you land a specimen that you've put the time and effort into locating and finally outwitting it and getting it on the bank!

Johnsons big Tench showing
Alan Burrows landed this well known Tench on Sunday 5th April 2009 which weighed in at exactly 9lbs. Son Mark had 4 tench too but couldn't quite match this one.

Tony Atkins summery of some highlights at Johnsons Lake
The Dink was 27lbs.10oz caught on the 27th Feb 2009
and the half linear was 25lbs.6oz caught on the 26th March 2009
the big common went 26lbs 08oz caught on the 12th march 2009
the Dink and Half Linear came out 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm
and the big common came out at midnight
what I am finding is that the target fish are coming out during the day when they are feeding by sight they appear to clever to feed by smell alone. so rig set-ups and how they appear in the water are crucial but this pattern has only just started to emerge.
