BROADWATER

August 2006 Broadwater My thanks to Mike Holcombe for his weekly reports all season long and it is good to hear that Broadwater is returning to its brilliant old self after a rather quiet spell for the last two years by its own high standards.

Currently fishing extremely well with many 20's showing. Also pleasing is that some smaller carp (under 3lbs) are putting in occasional appearances. Big perch and roach also showing down by the road bank.

"Day trip to Broadwater by the Moore family.
My father, brother and I went to Broadwater on the 6th November.
We had a good days fishing with eight fish landed. The fish came throughout the day from 10.00am when we arrived through to darkness when we packed up at 4.30pm'ish.
I got off to a great start with my first 20lb common weighing in at 20lb 4oz & caught  at distance from the rugby bank where I had seen fish moving.
Dads biggest was 18lb and also the best looking fish of the day whilst brother Gary's best was 16lb. All eight fish were good sized doubles and only one was below 14lb.
We were using a variety of baits - Dad used maggots in a swim feeder, Gary pellet and paste on one rod and prawns on the other whilst I used boilies. There was a slow period around midday. "

Notes:-
I fished over at Broadwater on Friday 2nd February 2007 with my mate Adrian Evans.  We were fishing on the Rugby Bank opposite the island probably about 30 yards out. Around 8.30pm I had a good run and bent into what was obviously a good fish.  Anyway, to cut the boring story I've told so many times short, I ended up with a 28lb 8oz Mirror carp.  A new personal best, the biggest fish I've ever seen on the banks at Broadwater and very happy indeed.

"
I had a PB Common Sunday morning from Broadwater, weighing in at 24lb 14oz using simple pellet tactics.
I’m not sure what part of the lake you call it, but we were in the two swims by the aerators where the small stream runs into the lake behind you, by the cottage?
Only stayed for a few hours, but managed to get 11 onto the bank, which l think might have been an achievement as we didn’t see many other anglers catching much.
Roll on next weekend."

Up against it with a change in the weather bringing the first frost and most other anglers struggling, Brian caught his first 20lb Carp in the shape of a lovely 20lb 8oz Common Carp.
Brian was using a Whiskey boilie, with PVA bag and pretty much using conventional carp gear and casting into the darkness trying to get near the island
